I was reading a devotional passage from Sarah Young's Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace In His Presence (April 16) and it reminded me of how easy it is to not be thankful in our daily lives. I mean we give thanks for our meals, our good health, and when good fortune comes our way. How easy is it to forget that the "basis of [our] gratitude is sovereignty." If we believe God has created the heavens and the earth and that He is in control and still on His throne, then when we criticize we are tantamount to saying that we could do a much better job of running this world than Him. Sarah goes on to say that in our limited perspective we loose faith instead of trusting God in all things. The Bible says, "for we walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7). We need to acknowledge His sovereignty in all circumstances....even with disappointing weather, the loss of jobs, someone else's conflicting world view, or even mandatory quarantine, which I am still in. :) I Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, "Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." May it be so.
